E-Rate Update

I recently traveled to Washington DC to attend an e-rate training session and thought I would share some of the information I learned. I do the filing myself for our district but I think it’s important we all understand the eligibility rules, even if we use outside resources to file. In my many years of filing e-rate, I’ve caught several vendor and consultant mistakes and made a fair share myself. The people at School & Libraries were always very helpful when I called to make corrections and I believe it made a big difference that I understood the rules (or at least thought I did!)

My overall impression was that the USAC and FCC people are really interested in helping schools, districts, and libraries maneuver the often complicated waters of e-rate filing. They encourage all questions and have posted numerous help documents on their website @ http://www.usac.org/sl/

The following are the notes and ideas I took back from the training. I believe they’re accurate but please be sure to read the actual documents online to be sure!
